The costs of health insurance plan and the inflation pressure for the elderly in 2008. According to data released this Friday (9) by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), the high accumulated 7.42% of the item had the greatest influence on high Consumer Price Index of the Elderly (CPI-3i). The indicator closed the year with a high of 6.35%.

Last year, the variation of the CPI-3i, which measures the change in the consumption basket of households mainly composed of individuals over 60 years of age, exceeded the rate for the whole population, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI -BR), which was 6.07%.

Apart from spending on health, also weighed in the year the price of tomatoes. With high 110.47%, the product was responsible for 0.31 percentage point of IPC-3i. Other strong influences of French bread came from the high (21.52%), residential rent (6.04%) and maid monthly (8.29%).

Against the tip, helped contain the rise of the bean carioquinha indicator, which was 26.69% cheaper from January to December, the English potato, whose price fell 17.80%, and milk powder (-9.73% ).

Quarter

In the three months ending in December, the CPI-3i ranged 1.60%, also above the rate of CPI-BR, which was 1.30%. Among the seven classes of expenditure components of the index, the largest contribution to the increase in rate in the quarter based on the food group, whose range went from -0.98% in the third quarter of 2008 to 2.36% in the fourth.

Also contributed to the increase in the rate of CPI-3i groups clothing (from -0.25% to 2.27%), transport (from 0.47% to 1.33%), education, reading and recreation (0 , 67% to 1.65%) and health and personal care (from 1.26% to 1.43%).

In contrast, the housing group (from 1.68% to 1.12%) and miscellaneous expenditure (from 2.20% to 0.53%) registered decreases in their rates of change.
